Now, this IS NOT gospel truth, far from it, it's ONLY from my rather vague
and frequently faulty memory - but Wyse WinTerm's have had sound support
build into their clients for a while - although I think it was only RDP4 on
the colourdepth aspects. Although that could have been more of a WinCE issue
than a RDP one. If anyone is interested, I can probably get my hands on a
WinTerm from WYSE to test it against, if someone REALLY wants to know.

There is always WinXP Professional - which gives you single user RDP5.1,
IIRC.
