RE: Possibility of RDP server for Linux?

The ability to use cheap WinTerms to access a centrally administered Linux
server is definitely of value! It also fuels other interesting future open
source projects such as load balancing on the road to a full-blown Citrix
alternative.

Somebody on this list did a VNC to RDP proxy. Who? I remember that person
stating that his or her server would work fine with rdesktop, but not
WinTerms. His or her work might be a good starting point. Also, the VNC
viewer for UNIX (which could be viewed as the left hand side of such a
proxy) uses shared memory when run on the same machine as the server. Based
on the success of Sun's Sun Ray architecture, I would imagine that a VNC to
RDP proxy running on the same machine as an off-the-shelf VNC server would
perform ok in a switched network.

Definitly not the RDP5.1 aspects. The RDP5.1 implimentation that this server
is most likely to contain will be derived from Microsofts published
protocol, which is very much closed source.

As for the RDP4 aspects, by the time the whole project is published, I
suspect it may be so interwoven with the 5.1 stuff it may be unseperable, we
will have to see.... I would love to open aspects of it, for sure.

The idea of an RDP/ICA server for Linux has MANY advantages over X :)
