weird drawing issue with unified patches

Connecting to a Windows 2000 Terminal Server with rdesktop 1.1.0
looks normal:

Re-connecting to the same server with rdesktop 1.1.0 with the
unified patch 19.8.3 has a weird problem:

Note the blue line along the top of the start menu and the gray
background behind the selected application. Both shots taken on an
OpenBSD 3.0 machine (x86) with a 16bpp display.
If I resize the start menu or otherwise force a redraw on the
unified patch version, the start menu gets drawn correctly. Has
anyone seen this before? I noticed it with the unified patches for
1.0.0, as well.
